This popular NETFLIX documentary talks about the monetising of social media and how this impacts our children’s lives. This is suitable to watch with older tweens, and teens (especially if they use social media).

Qustodio is a family internet filtering solution that can be purchased as a monthly or annual subscription. You set routines, block or approve sites and check your child’s internet browsing history. It is not as intuitive as Family Zone (which was my go-to app and taken over by Qustodio in 2023) but it does the job.
Canopy is an internet filtering solution that blocks harmful content, deters sexting, and is purchased with a monthly subscription. It is accredited under the Family Friendly Filter program in Australia. I have not used Canopy personally but it receives positive reviews.
Norton is a well-known anti-virus and malware protection company. This family-oriented package is designed to help you monitor and shape your family’s online habits. It is an annual subscription, and accredited under the Family Friendly Filter program in Australia.
I have not used Norton Family personally but it receives positive reviews.
The Family Friendly Filters program is supported by the Office of the eSafety Commissioner (Australia) and provides recommendations for several internet filters based on extensive testing.
Jon Haidt is a leading author in the tech-parenting space. His substack is excellent, citing the best research around children, social media, and mental health.
