FREE TECH-PARENTING COURSE WITH DANIEL SIH

It’s tough being a parent today, and much of this has to do with technology

Raising Tech-Healthy Humans is now a three-week online training course for parents with primary school-aged children and younger, who are concerned about the impacts of digital technology on their kids’ lives.

This course is facilitated by Daniel Sih, an award-winning author and productivity expert known for his expertise in technology and parenting. It is free of charge (funded by a grant).

This interactive training series will be on Zoom, over three consecutive Thursdays — June 8th, 15th and 22nd, from 8:00pm to 9:15pm.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:

Daniel Sih is a productivity expert, TEDx speaker, multi award-winning author, and a parent with three children in Hobart. His debut book, Spacemaker, won six international awards, including a 2023 Axiom Business Book Award (USA) and a 2021 Australian Business Book Award. His latest work, Raising Tech-Healthy Humans, won Best Parenting Book in the 2023 eLit Book Awards (USA) and serves as a guiding framework for our discussions.

What is expected of participants:

This course is not only instructive but also interactive, providing an opportunity to talk and share experiences with other parents navigating the challenges and joys of raising tech-healthy humans. While attendance for each session is not mandatory, the course is designed to progressively build on concepts over three consecutive weeks.

Participants, including parents, carers, and grandparents, must keep their cameras on throughout each training session and actively engage in small-group discussions using Zoom breakout rooms. The primary goal is to foster shared learning within a secure environment — this is not a passive “listen-in” experience.

Please note: The advice given in this course is general and intended to offer support, encouragement, and mutual accountability among parents. This is an adults-only environment. It does not replace professional or medical advice, and is not specifically designed to assist children struggling with addictions, mental health issues, learning difficulties, or other specific conditions.,

COURSE TOPICS INCLUDE:

  • How does digital overuse impact the mental health of young people?
  • When and how should I give my child a smartphone?
  • What types of media are better for my child’s brain?
  • How do I establish healthier screen-time limits?
  • How do I talk about pornography and the darker sides of the web?
  • How do I engage in relationship-forming tech conversations?
  • What strategies might I use to encourage healthier tech and non-tech habits?
  • What can we do to encourage adventures away from a screen?
